Japan is a densely populated, mountainous country with a fast aging population.  There is a shortage of final resting places, especially in the big cities such as Tokyo where burial plots  can cost more than US$100,000.

Japanese company Nichiryoku has created an interactive family plot that fuses technology with the traditional -  multi-story high tech graveyards.  Inside the building the cremated remains of your loved ones are stored in a personal sealed box which is kept in an underground vault. When you wish to access the box you scan an RFID card which then tells the system to bring up your box and place it in the prayer area.

One of the newest themed bars is the Samurai cafe which capitalizes on the “Sengoku” Boom.  The  Sengoku Style Cafe & Bar Mononopu is staffed by cute girls who wear a combination of maid costumes and samurai armor and caters to lonely history buffs.

No, Pink Big Pig located in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, Tokyo is not some kind of sleazy fetish bar but a Pork themed restaurant,  lounge and karaoke complex .  The restaurant has a buffet that features over 50 types of pork also includes  delicious bread, rice, pizza, pasta, sweets and ice cream.

How long can your paper plane fly for?  In competitive paper airplane throwing, a 20-second flight is exceptional, 25 or better is world class and over 30 is the ultimate.  Japanese paper plane master Takuo Toda 戸田　拓夫 holds the world record of 27.9 seconds he set in Fukuyama city, Hiroshima in April last year.

Toda, an engineer, is the head of the Japan Origami Airplane Association and is virtually unmatched in his ability to fold paper aircraft and makes his planes out of origami paper,  one sheet of paper which he does not cut or paste.  Toda said that the secret to throwing a paper airplane is to aim upward – not straight – so that it has time to gain altitude and slowly circle back to the ground.
