At the recent Eco-Products 2009, Japanese companies Oriental Co Ltd and Nakabayashi exhibited their revolutionary White Goat recycling machine which makes toilet paper from shredded office paper by just adding paper and water. The machine has a shredding machine built inside it and the shredded office paper first goes into a hopper where it is untangled in small batches and then dissolved in a pulper.

Any foreign matter is removed in a tank, and the pulp consistency is adjusted. Next, the wet paper is thinned out and dried. The dry paper is wound into finished toilet rolls, which emerge from the outlet one at a time. All of these tasks are done automatically. The White Goat machine won a top prize at the Monozukuri Nippon awards and it has patents pending.

About 40 sheets of A4 paper takes about half an hour to make one roll of toilet paper and saves 60 cedars trees annually. The white goat machine operates with a standard 100V power supply and comes with the dimensions of W1830 × D810 × H1800mm and weighs about 600 kg. Commercial release is aimed for summer 2010 and is estimated to cost 9,000,000 Yen.

Now that’s one way to securely destroy documents and save the earth!
